Het is wél gebeurd: ‘Jammer, dat was niet nodig’ Boris Becker teleurgesteld in Eva Jinek

Boris Becker Opens Up in Dutch TV Interviews: Tension with Eva Jinek, Warmth at VI

Tennis legend Boris Becker appeared on two major Dutch television programs last night, offering very different interviews.
First, he joined Eva Jinek’s talk show, where the host confronted him with one of the most painful chapters of his personal life. Later, he visited the men of Vandaag Inside (VI), where the atmosphere turned out to be far more relaxed and welcoming.

At Jinek, the spotlight fell on Becker’s past infidelity and the daughter he fathered outside his marriage. Years ago, Becker had a brief encounter with a Russian model that led to the birth of his daughter Anna. When Jinek raised the subject, Becker responded with calmness and pride:

“I spoke to my daughter just yesterday evening for 45 minutes. She’s doing very well. She’s beautiful, very smart, and we have a wonderful relationship. I’m glad about this so-called mistake. How about that?”

From there, Becker moved on to VI, where the tone was completely different. Surrounded by Wilfred Genee, Johan Derksen, and René van der Gijp, he seemed at ease within minutes.

Becker admitted he preferred the VI setting over Jinek’s more formal style:

“It’s a totally different program. At Eva’s, you feel a bit like you’re on trial. She looks at you with those big blue eyes. Here, it comes more from the gut. It’s more real.”

The VI hosts welcomed Becker warmly, with Genee joking about the sensitive topic of his daughter, and Derksen noting how quickly the former tennis star relaxed:

“You saw him thaw within two minutes. He realized it was friendly here, while Eva has that sharp, prosecutor-like tone.”

Becker ended the show by praising the trio and even encouraged viewers at home to vote for Vandaag Inside to win the Golden Televizier-Ring. His compliment didn’t go unnoticed—Van der Gijp, in particular, was proud that such a seasoned public figure recognized the unique atmosphere of their show.

Political analyst Raymond Mens also understood why Becker felt more at home at VI, pointing out that his earlier stop at Jinek made the contrast even sharper:

“At Eva’s, he felt like he was with the prosecutor. At VI, it was simply much cozier.”

In the end, Becker’s Dutch TV double appearance revealed two very different sides of him: defensive but dignified under pressure, and relaxed, candid, and even playful when placed in a warmer, more informal environment.
