The reality series De Hanselers: Van de Piste naar de Playa may be over, but viewers are clearly not done with its most talked-about star: Monique “Mama Mo” Hanseler.
In a new interview with Shownieuws, Monique shares an update on her son Mike and his new girlfriend — and also reveals what Mike’s new partner, Veerle, really thinks of her.
Monique first became a household name during Winter Vol Liefde, when her son Mike signed up in search of romance. His love life quickly became complicated. Mike initially ended up with Antine, and later started a relationship with Denise. Both women, however, have spoken negatively about Monique, openly blaming her as a constant disruptive force and even as a major reason their relationships with Mike failed.
After those turbulent romances, Mike has now moved on again — this time with a woman named Veerle.
What raised eyebrows was the way the relationship became public. Mike himself had not yet announced anything, when Monique unexpectedly decided to reveal the news. To the surprise of both Mike and Veerle, Mama Mo took it upon herself to confirm their romance.
The couple has since taken a major step forward: Mike and Veerle are now living together. According to Monique, the “umbilical cord has finally been cut,” suggesting her son is becoming more independent. Still, there is a twist — Mike and Veerle are now living directly below her, as her downstairs neighbors.
So much for complete distance.
Everything seems calm on the surface, but Monique admits she recently had a serious conversation with Veerle. She wanted to prepare her future daughter-in-law for her outspoken personality.
“I talked to her about it, because Veerle comes from a very proper family,” Monique explained. “Really neat people. I said: ‘What do your parents think when they see me on TV with my big mouth?’”
According to Monique, Veerle reassured her completely.
“She told me: ‘Honestly, they really like you. You’re honest and straightforward.’”
Monique went even further, claiming that Veerle finds her “fun and a great mother-in-law.”
Still, viewers may take these words with caution. After all, Monique previously claimed on Shownieuws that she and Denise were “best friends” — a statement that did not exactly match reality.
Whether history is repeating itself remains to be seen. One thing is certain: with Mama Mo involved, peace and quiet are never guaranteed.
